What is a megagame?

No pen, no paper, no problem.

Dreamstate is a ~6 month role playing game (RPG) campaign—in a board game. (It's NOT a video game). Its ruleset is robust, its gameplay is deep, and its content is kid-friendly. We coined the term megagame because it's much larger in scope than a traditional board game.

Compete with other players and the Game Master, progress your character, and find treasure and fame, all in a game that uses an extensive set of tiles, cards, and pieces—with no need for pen and paper.

Gambit is now Dreamstate

We've changed the name of the game, but it's the same 100+ hour tabletop, dungeon crawl, role playing board game. Some of it was technical, but deep down I felt that Dreamstate was more fitting. There was no reference to the name Gambit within the game, especially not in the lore. Dreamstate, however, is central to the game's story and the blurb What is the Dreamstate? has been on the website since the beginning.

Equipment-based and skill-based progression.

As you find powerful loot tiles throughout the dungeon, you can equip them to available squares to improve your character.

Weapons and armor can only be equipped on specific rows associated with required atributes. Paired with limited slots and variable sized items, players must make trade-offs and tetris their load outs as the game progresses.

Rich lore undergirds gameplay and fuels home brews.

Once a year people from all across the planet Nydris sleep at the same time and don't wake up for days. They experience vivid dreams during which a select few are endowed with magical abilities. They dream of the past, the future, and things hidden. This is known as the Dreamstate.

Thousands of years in our future, after scarcely surviving the migration and The Final Measure, humanity has mostly forgotten its history and technology, but having harnessed magic it now thrives again as it images its old ways in new forms.
